VOLUNTEERING
Besides my activities with Más Ciencia por México, A.C., I have also volunteered to science communication events and conferences throughout my career, and continue to do so.

Institute of Biotechnology, UNAM
In 2014, the Institute of Biotechnology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico held its first Open Doors events to invite people from all backgrounds and ages to see the cutting edge work performed by the research groups. In this first event, I participated in the organization and logistics.
Due to the outstanding success, a second Open Doors event was organized for 2016. On this occasion, I designed and coordinated the showcase of research on biological control of insect pests performed at Dr. Alejandra Bravo and Dr. Mario Soberón's groups. This included showing how the insecticidal toxins worked on mosquitoes, beetles and moths, and displaying the formulations that are being prepared for market release in the coming years. |

CADE Museum of Creativity and Invention
For 2018 and 2019, I also volunteered at the CADE Museum of Creativity and Invention at Depot Park in Gainesville, FL. This museum holds rotating activities and exhibits on scientific topics of biology, engineering, sustainability, and more. My role was to welcome and explain these exhibits to the general public, from children to senior citizens.
The museum also has a wide set of activities to foster problem solving and creative thinking in the specialized labs. In this role, I supervised the guests in their activities and explained the engineering and scientific principles behind the technology, and gave some background on the history of some devices. |
